A New Orleans native, Morton’s feel-good, soulful pop music tells stories about life and love. On March 27, 2012, PJ released his first solo project, the free EP entitled "Following My First Mind", on Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment. Born into the richly melodic soil of New Orleans, PJ recalls a musically inspired upbringing where his talents were eagerly nurtured. Though encompassed in a gospel environment, he was also strongly influenced by pop icons The Beatles and James Taylor, but equally moved by soulful legends Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. These diverse persuasions shaped PJ’s growth as a musician and propelled him to find his own artistry.
After winning a Grammy for his songwriting and production of India Arie’s “Interested", PJ went on to win Dove and Stellar awards in 2008. His collaboration with gospel croonerDeWayne Woods resulted in a huge career high. The testimony PJ articulated in “Let Go, Let God” catapulted up the charts for a record seventy weeks and garnering numerous awards and accolades, most importantly bringing PJ’s early influences full circle. PJ was also noticed by Oscar Award-winning composer AR Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire). AR tapped PJ to contribute “Sajna” to the soundtrack and movie for the Vince Vaughn comedy Couples Retreat. PJ has also produced and written for noteworthy and platinum artists such as Jermaine DupriLL Cool JJagged EdgeMonicaIndia Ariegospel superstar Fred Hammond and Heather Headley. In 2009, PJ ventured into the literary world, publishing a book entitled "Why Can't I Sing About Love?". The book ruminates on the idea that sacred church music and non-sacred secular music about love can come from the same place if you subscribe to the belief that God is Love and Love is God.
